Puscifer — the project of Maynard James Keenan, Mat Mitchell and Carina Round — detailed their first album in more than five years, Normal Isn’t, arriving February 6, 2026 via Puscifer Entertainment/Alchemy Recordings/BMG. The band also shared the preview, “Self Evident,” along with 2026 North American Tour dates.
Puscifer wrote and recorded Normal Isn’t in Arizona, Los Angeles and on the road during last year’s Sessanta Tour. The recording process saw Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan employing a different method of creation and capture, setting up his own digital recording system and to craft full song ideas before presenting them to Mitchell and Round.
“Instead of just saying, ‘I want this to sound like Fleetwood Mac on cocaine if they had a baby with PJ Harvey,’ Maynard was showing us his intention, which was really cool,” Round said of the process. “In Puscifer, any idea can totally change without any preciousness, and everybody is on board – not unlike an insane asylum. We found each other because we’re demented in a symbiotic way.”
Special guests on Normal Isn’t include Maynard’s Tool bandmate drummer Danny Carey and renowned bassist Tony Levin. Greg Edwards (bass), Gunnar Olsen (drums) and Sarah Jones (drums) also contributed to the record. Mr. Ian Ross, the father of Nine Inch Nails‘s Atticus Ross, narrates the track “Seven One.”
Additionally, Normal Isn’t saw Maynard getting back to his roots.
“We’re definitely leaning into our early influences,” Keenan said. “It’s the place where goth meets punk. It’s where I came from.”
The subject matter on the record is culled from the unique and challenging times the world finds itself in.
“Normal Isn’t reflects this time we are living in,” Maynard added. “As storytellers and artists, our job is to observe, interpret and report. We take in our environment and share what we see, and what we see around us does not appear normal. Not by a long shot.”
The first taste of Normal Isn’t arrives in the form of the single “Self Evident.” The track is emblematic of a more guitar driven aesthetic the band adopted for the LP.
“From the outset, we had discussed an element of rawness and edge, which guitar brings,” Mitchell, who co-produced the album, stated. “We got rid of the guard rails and made the music more aggressive.”
“Self Evident” arrives with a music video captured during a concert in Los Angeles where Puscifer presented the album. Watch below:
