The sixth annual Lockn’ Festival hit day two on Friday at Infinity Downs Farm in Arrington, Virginia with a full day of performances that featured the likes of Ghost Light, Turkuaz, Toots & The Maytals and George Clinton & P-Funk. Last night Widespread Panic was tapped to close out the festival’s main stage with the help of Margo Price. The pairing teamed up on a stretch of songs to close the night that included a trio of covers along with takes on tunes from their respective catalogs.
Widespread Panic got their headlining set going with the party-rocker “Tall Boy.” From there the Southern-jam titans would deliver a jam-filled stretch that saw them string together Alan Price’s “Sell Sell” with the old-school “Love Tractor” and “You Got Yours.” “North” would follow, with the band pairing “Rebirtha” with the R&B song “None Of Us Are Free.” The latter, which has been recorded by the likes of Ray Charles, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Solomon Burke was dusted off for the first time since March 7, 2014 – a span of 266 shows.
“All Time Low” from the band’s 1999 release ‘Til the Medicine Takes came ahead of an impressive run that saw the six-piece drop “Greta” in the middle of “Driving Song” before they headed into “Drums.” As the band was winding down the percussion jam John Bell welcomed Price out to the stage, who was making her second consecutive appearance at the festival.

With the help of a trio of horn players from the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Widespread Price delivered a funky, Southern-fried soul take on Aretha Franklin’s “Rock Steady.” The pairing looked to Panic’s songbook next as JB and Price exchanged verses on “Up All Night.” The country singer-songwriter then strapped on an electric guitar as she got a chance to showcase one of her own tunes next. Price & Co. delivered a jammed-out take on “Four Years Of Chances” from her critically-acclaimed debut album Midwest Farmer’s Daughter. Bell and Price teamed up again to swap verses on Tom Petty’s “Honey Bee.” Price took center stage to bring the set to close as she channeled Janis Joplin on an impressive version of “Piece Of My Heart.”
