Pro-Shot Video: Umphrey’s McGee Shares Prince Halloween Montage
By Scott Bernstein Oct 31, 2017 • 9:33 am PDT
As reported, veteran jam act Umphrey’s McGee celebrated Halloween on Saturday night at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota. The band each dressed as Prince from six different eras and included a number of covers from the late hometown hero throughout the evening. Umphrey’s has just released a video montage featuring footage from the weekend and audio of the band’s “Let’s Go Crazy” cover, watch:
“Let’s Go Crazy” featured guitarist Brendan Bayliss standing under a spotlight and reciting, “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today, to get through this thing called life” as he began UM’s debut cover of “Let’s Go Crazy.” Other Prince covers played by Umphrey’s McGee were a rocking rendition of “Raspberry Beret,” Ahmed Gallab from opening act Sinkane adding falsetto vocals to UM’s first-ever cover of Prince’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” Joel Cummins playing keytar on “Little Red Corvette” as well as Cummins, Bayliss and Kris Myers trading verses on a “1999” encore. Head here for full coverage of the show.
