Pro-Shot Video: Phish Shares Funky ‘Carini’ From San Francisco

Phish often wound up exploring blissful or evil jam spaces out of “Carini” in recent years. The band went the funk route for large swaths of a standout version of the song on Tuesday night at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. Pro-shot video has been shared on the quartet’s YouTube page.
“Carini” came at the tail-end of an “A Song I Heard The Ocean Sing” > “Mercury” > “Carini” sequence featuring varied jams that stands as one of the highlights of the now seven-show-old tour. Keyboardist Page McConnell focused on Clavinet riffs while guitarist Trey Anastasio alternated between funky rhythms and angular leads. The quartet all add to what starts as an amorphous piece of improvisation in which Phish lands on an anthemic harmony they ride to a crowd-pleasing climax.

The band returns to the stage on Friday in Los Angeles. A webcast is available via LivePhish.com.
