As reported, Phish rang in 2017 with a guest-filled and production-heavy “gag” at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday night. The band has shared official video of the “gag” from New Year’s Eve through the conclusion of a horn-driven “Suzy Greenberg.”
The video starts with a “Petrichor” that saw the group aided by keyboardist Jeff Tanski, percussionist Andres Forero and the TAB horn section of Jennifer Hartswick, Natalie Cressman and James Casey. A group of dancers paraded at the front of the stage as Phish and their guests made their way through “Petrichor.” Some of the dancers, dressed in suites, juggled umbrellas as faux rain fell from a top the stage. The dancers pulled off a choreographed routine and when they eventually left the stage, umbrellas tethered to lines at the top of the stage did the dancing.
When Phish finished “Petrichor” guitarist Trey Anastasio led a countdown. It then rained cats and dog balloons as sound effects of dogs barking and cats screeching overlaid the band’s performance of “Auld Lang Syne.” The guests stuck around for the duration of the third set including “Suzy Greenberg.” Watch the first 25 minutes of Phish’s third set on New Year’s Eve:
