One of the most highly anticipated sets at this past August’s Lockn’ Festival in Arrington, Virginia was a complete performance of the Grateful Dead’s Terrapin Station album played by Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Nicki Bluhm and The Terrapin Family Band. The ensemble ended the main stage action on the Friday night of the festival with a 27-minute take on the LP’s final track, “Terrapin Station.” Pro-shot video of the celebratory version in honor of the album’s 40th anniversary has surfaced on the Relix YouTube channel.

Phil, Bob, Nicki, Grahame Lesh, Jason Crosby, Ross James and Alex Koford worked through nearly all of the segments of “Terrapin Station” found on the 1977 album. However, the group also fit in a section entitled “Jack O’Roses.” Lyricist Robert Hunter penned the tune as the seventh segment of “Terrapin Station,” yet the Grateful Dead never played the song. In recent years Brian Lesh added his own music to Hunter’s lyrics and that was the rendition Lesh, Weir, Bluhm and The TXR Band went with.
