After spending the summer on the road with Crazy Horse, Neil Young went back to the solo format for his seven-song set at Farm Aid. Young began the performance with stirring takes on “Heart Of Gold” off Harvest and the title track from 1978’s Comes A Time and then offered up “Pocahontas” off Rust Never Sleeps. The set continued with the unreleased tune “Standing In The Light Of Love” and a version of “Mother Earth” that featured Mickey Raphael of Willie Nelson’s band on harmonica. Neil then delivered the emotional “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?” by his lonesome before bringing out Micah and Lukas Nelson for an electrifying (though acoustic) romp through “Rockin’ In The Free World.”
We’ve compiled a playlist of the Neil Young videos from Saturday night’s concert:
Set: Heart Of Gold, Comes A Time, Pocahontas, Standing In The Light Of Love (Video mislabeled as “Pocahontas”), Mother Earth (w/ Mickey Raphael), Who’s Gonna Stand Up?, Rockin’ In The Free World (w/ Lukas Nelson & Micah Nelson)
