Seattle-based independent radio station KEXP recently welcomed The National for an live in-studio performance. The session saw the band playing selections from their latest studio album Sleep Well Beast as well as a rare unreleased song.
The new record’s opening track “Nobody Else Will Be There” opened The National’s session at the station’s new facility. They continued with fellow album cut “Guilty Party,” a chat with host John Richards, and the LP’s “Carin At The Liquor Store” whose title references frontman Matt Berninger’s wife. The band concluded with a performance of the unreleased original “Rylan.” Berninger & Co. first unveiled “Rylan” for a 2011 CBC session and it quickly disappeared from live sets and never made it onto an album. The National dusted off the tune earlier this fall.
