Pro-Shot Video: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Shares 1st Set From Recent Chicago Show
By Scott Bernstein Mar 1, 2018 • 1:04 pm PST
Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead played the Riviera Theatre in Chicago on February 17. The band has revived its Rad Tracks series by sharing professionally-shot video of the first set from the 17th in The Windy City.
Drummer Joe Russo, guitarists Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton, bassist Dave Dreiwitz and keyboardist Marco Benevento opened with a jam they worked into “The Wheel” in Chicago. Metzger then channeled Bob Weir on “Black Throated Wind” before the group’s first ever partial “Jack Straw” which somehow dropped into “Bertha.” The action continued with a “Loser” that featured a jam on the Allman Brothers Band classic “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” ahead of a flipped rendition of the Pigpen gem “Easy Wind.” JRAD closed the frame with “Viola Lee Blues.”
