Pro-Shot Video: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Performs ‘The Wheel’ With Coldplay Jam

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead held a two-night stand at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester New York on July 21 and 22. The Grateful Dead tribute act has shared official video of their opening night performance of “The Wheel” featuring a jam on a Coldplay song.

JRAD’s July 21 show at The Cap included a number of debuts, including the show opening first electric arrangement of “Dark Hollow.” Set one also saw a partially played, first-time performance of Ramsey Lewis’ instrumental “In With the In Crowd” inside of “Playing In The Band.” The second set began with the group’s first offering of “Deep Elem Blues” and the encore that night was a debut cover of Bob Dylan’s “It’s All Over Now Baby Blue.”

Set two also saw drummer Joe Russo, bassist Dave Dreiwitz, guitarists Tom Hamilton and Scott Metzger and keyboardist Marco Benevento (utilizing a baby grand piano) play the Dead classic “The Wheel.” Benevento steered the rendition into a jam on Coldplay’s “God Put A Smile Upon Your Face,” which was also a first for JRAD.
