Pianist Holly Bowling played a solo show at the Bluebird Theater in Denver on Thursday night ahead of Phish’s run at the nearby Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Bowling shared professionally-shot video featuring a Phish cover she performed in Denver.

Holly bookended her first set in Denver with the Phish Gamehendge suite “Colonel Forbin’s Ascent” and “Fly Famous Mockingbird.” She fit Grateful Dead classics “Bird Song,” “Help On The Way” and “Slipknot!” along with Phish gems “The Horse,” “Silent In The Morning” and “Lizards” within the “Forbin’s” opener and “Mockingbird” closer.

Thursday’s second set began with an impressive “That’s It For The Other One” sequence in which she worked in the Phish instrumental “Bliss” and an outstanding arrangement of the Vermont-based quartet’s “Mercury.” Holly followed the suite with a gorgeous “Stella Blue” and riveting “Sand.” Bowling went on to conclude the frame by performing the “Franklin’s Tower” hinted at in the first set. The night concluded with a “Cars Trucks Buses” encore.
