On August 1, 2017 Gov’t Mule headlined a concert at Jessye Norman Amphitheater in Augusta, Georgia featuring support from Galactic. Mule’s set included a tribute to Jerry Garcia on what would have been his 75th birthday. The band recently shared pro-shot video of the Grateful Dead cover performed in honor of Garcia.
Gov’t Mule opened their set in Augusta with “Patchwork Quilt,” a song Warren Haynes wrote after learning of Garcia’s death in 1995. The band then welcomed Galactic drummer Stanton Moore to use a second drum kit that had been set up on stage. Moore, Haynes, Mule drummer Matt Abts, multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis and bassist Jorgen Carlsson proceeded to perform a portion of the Dead’s “Dark Star.” Gov’t Mule and Moore laid down a stellar take on “Dark Star” before segueing into “Morning Dew.”
