Pro-Shot Video: Aqueous Debuts Oysterhead Cover At 2018 Summer Camp Music Festival

Buffalo-based jam quartet Aqueous closed out the Campfire Stage on the first full day of this year’s Summer Camp Music Festival at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. The band has shared professionally-shot footage of a highlight from the May 25th set, a debut cover of short-lived supergroup Oysterhead’s “Pseudo Suicide.”
Aqueous did “Pseudo Suicide” justice, extending the track beyond the 17-minute mark as they added their own spin to the jam that evolved out of the song. Multi-instrumentalist David Loss handled lead vocals with guitarist Mike Gantzer chiming in with harmonies. Drummer Rob Houk channeled Stewart Copeland throughout the adventurous cover.
Oysterhead was formed in 2000 by Primus bassist Les Claypool, Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio and Copeland of The Police for a concert in New Orleans. The trio went on to release their lone studio album The Grand Pecking Order in 2001 and toured behind the LP that year. Oysterhead last performed at Bonnaroo in 2006.
Read a note from Gantzer about Aqueous’ version of “Pseudo Suicide”:
“Having been inspired by The Police, Phish, and Primus, when Trey Anastasio/Stewart Copeland/Les Claypool formed Oysterhead and released The Grand Pecking Order, we were all floored by its epic weirdness! It’s been on our radar for a few years to cover one of those tunes, but we needed a context that would allow us to drop that kind of darker high energy vibe that ‘Pseudo Suicide’ carries. When we saw that both of our Summer Camp sets were at 2:00 am this year, we knew it was the perfect crowd and context to bust this one out! Special shout out to one of our diehard AQ fans who pestered the band to cover Oysterhead, too.”

Next up for Aqueous is an appearance at this year’s Disc Jam on Thursday. Then, the quartet heads to Denver for a headlining show at the Bluebird Theater on Saturday.
