Pro-Shot: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Teams With Horns To Debut ‘Hard To Handle’

By Scott Bernstein Apr 13, 2016 7:12 am PDT

Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead continue their Rad Tracks series today by sharing pro-shot video of the scorching “Jam” > “Hard To Handle” sequence that opened the band’s show at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City on March 25. The five-piece was joined by a four-piece horn section of Stuart Bogie, Martin Perna, Eric Biondo and Raymond Mason for the duration at “Hard To Handle.”

“Hard To Handle” was originally recorded by Otis Redding in 1968 and was a staple of Grateful Dead performances between 1969 and 1971. Guitarist Scott Metzger handled vocals on JRAD’s cover of the song at Brooklyn Bowl which was the first time the band had played “Hard To Handle.” The horn section assisted Almost Dead for most of their second of three consecutive Brooklyn Bowl shows they played last month.
