Vermont jam quartet Twiddle hit a career milestone on Friday night, when they headlined the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado for the first time. Twiddle welcomed special guests Phil Lesh, Grahame Lesh, Todd Stoops and Stick Figure to join them at various points of the evening.

Guitarist Mihali Savoulidis, bassist Zdenek Gubb, keyboardist Ryan Dempsey and drummer Brook Jordan opened with the instrumental “Enter” as an introduction to “Orlando’s.” Keyboardist Todd Stoops has shared the stage with Twiddle on numerous occasions and was the band’s first guest at Red Rocks. Stoops emerged during the “Apples” jam and went toe-to-toe with Dempsey. The quartet continued on with “Blunderbuss,” a rocker debuted at The Capitol Theatre back on May 7, 2016. A pairing of “Polluted Beauty” and “Lost In The Cold” brought Twiddle’s first of two sets to a close.

“Frankenfoote” is a classic Twiddle original that had gone missing since December 31, 2016. Last night, the four-piece busted out the fan-favorite to kick off their second set at Red Rocks. A special moment in an evening filled with them came next as Phil and Grahame Lesh joined the group for a “Shakedown Street” > “White Light” > “Shakedown Street” sequence. The Grateful Dead bassist and the Terrapin Family Band/Midnight North guitarist are set to play Red Rocks on Saturday night. Phil last sat-in with Twiddle at the band’s Tumble Down Festival last July, while Grahame has collaborated with the band a number of times over the past few years.

After Phil and Grahame exited the stage, Twiddle continued on with an emotional “Beethoven & Greene,” a “Hatti’s Jam” and the bluegrass-tinged “Hattibagen McRat.” One of the band’s signature songs, “When It Rains It Pours,” brought the second set to a close. When Twiddle returned for the encore they were joined by members of opening act Stick Figure. Both bands treated fans to covers of Bob Marley’s “Jamming” and “With A Little Help From My Friends” by the Beatles.
