A weekend of tributes to the late internet pioneer, activist and Grateful Dead songwriter John Perry Barlow, who died in February, extended into Monday with an event held at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California. The format for Monday’s event was similar to what went down at The Fillmore the prior evening with speakers sharing stories of Barlow and musicians taking the stage in interesting pairings.

The first musical performance of the night came from John Perry Barlow’s daughters, a.k.a. The Barlowettes, who reprised their rendition of “I Will Take You Home” from the previous evening. JPB wrote “I Will Take You Home” with Brent Mydland for inclusion on the Dead’s 1989 album Built To Last. Barlow confidantes Bob Weir, Steve Kromer and Andy Leonard then told tales of their friend. Jerry Joseph was the next performer, as he led Steve Kimock and Wally Ingram on “Wisconsin Death Trip” and “Don’t Look Down.”

Monday’s tribute continued with an ensemble that included Jerry Harrison, Wally Ingram, Steve Kimock, Bob Weir, Lukas Nelson, Aishlin Harrison and Paul Ill performing “Heaven” by Talking Heads, the Grateful Dead’s “I Need A Miracle” and Al Green’s “Take Me To The River” as well as the Dead’s “Feel Like A Stranger.” Lukas Nelson sang “Feel Like A Stranger,” which was co-written by Barlow and Bob Weir, and also featured longtime RatDog members Jay Lane on drums and Robin Sylvester on bass.

Bobby’s first turn on lead vocals came with a “The Music Never Stopped” that saw RatDog/Dead & Company keyboardist Jeff Chimenti replace Jerry Harrison. A lineup of Kimock, Weir, Nelson, Lane, Ingram, Sylvester, Ill and Chimenti then performed “Estimated Prophet” and “Lost Sailor” > “Saint Of Circumstance.” Lukas sang “Estimated,” while Weir belted out “Sailor”/”Saint.” For the second night in a row, the tribute to John Perry Barlow came to a close with most of the evening’s performers assembling for “Cassidy.”
