This Thursday, April 20 theaters across the country will host screenings of The Grateful Dead Movie in honor of the film’s 40th anniversary. Before the film, a short feature about the band’s famed May 8, 1977 show at Barton Hall on the campus of Cornell University will be shown. Relix has shared a clip from the mini-documentary which includes interviews with fans who were on hand at the historic concert.
The Grateful Dead Movie was co-directed by Jerry Garcia and Leon Gast. Originally released in 1977, the documentary features footage from the Grateful Dead’s October 1974 five-night run at Winterland in San Francisco. Live performances include such Dead classics as “Dark Star,” “U.S. Blues,” “One More Saturday Night,” “Casey Jones,” “Playing In The Band” and “Sugar Magnolia.” Head here for more information and to find the theater in your area screening the film.
