From Thursday – Saturday, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead brought the band full circle by performing three shows at NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl, the venue where the five-piece played what was expected to be their first and only gig on January 26, 2013. Thankfully drummer Joe Russo, guitarists Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton, keyboardist Marco Benevento and bassist Dave Dreiwitz have kept it going and nearly 80 shows later returned to Brooklyn Bowl to celebrate the 16th anniversary of influential e-mail list NYC-Freaks. Today, we’re pleased to premiere a pair of clips shot in glorious 4K, hi-def at Saturday’s finale by videographer LazyLightning55.
Let’s start with the mind-blowing, near 30 minute segment that ended the first set on Saturday. The video starts with “St. Stephen,” always a winner in the hands of JRAD, and continues with the end of a “Terrapin Station” the five-piece had started the night before. Almost Dead was joined by ace electric violinist Katie Jacoby for portions of “Terrapin.” Here’s how it went:
Another highlight from Friday’s show was a gorgeous version of “The Wheel” JRAD laid down. The five-piece’s take on “The Wheel” featured a blissful jam that included the refrain of “Joeline” from Hamilton’s American Babies project within. Marco Benevento adds sublime melodies to the action which his mates pick up on. Take a look:
