Poolside shared a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street.” The track comes in celebration of Jerry Garcia’s birthday on Saturday, August 1.

Poolside, the project of producer and multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Paradise, is an official artist of the Jerry Garcia Family and Rex Foundation’s Daze Between Jerry Garcia livestream celebration. Poolside is also teaming up with the Jerry Garcia Family for a Daytime Disco playlist which will feature music from the Jerry Garcia Band and the Grateful Dead, including the original “Shakedown Street,” as well as Poolside’s cover.

Jeffrey Paradise spoke about Poolside’s nod to Garcia in a statement:

“Shakedown Street” has always been a staple of Poolside’s DJ sets. It’s one of the rare songs that can combine rock and disco in a way that totally works. So just in time for Jerry Day, here’s Poolside’s take on the Grateful Dead! It’s always a challenge to cover a classic song and do it justice, especially one with a one-chord chorus. This version brings some extra Poolside disco and electronic flavor as a refreshing take on the original while still honoring the master composition.

Poolside’s cover of “Shakedown Street” also arrived with an accompanying music video directed by Bill Heffley. Watch it below:
