Pixies confirmed a new album, Doggerel, due out on September 30 through BMG. The renowned alt-rockers also shared the single, “There’s A Moon On.”

Doggerel is Pixies’ eighth studio album and follows 2019’s Beneath the Eyrie. Earlier this year, the Boston-born band took to eco-friendly studio Guilford Sound in Guilford, Vermont to record Doggerel with producer Tom Dalgety. The sessions saw the band — guitarists Black Francis and Joey Santiago, bassist Paz Lenchantin and drummer David Lovering — tweaking their sound from previous albums, as Santiago noted.

“This time around we have grown,” he said. “We no longer have under two-minute songs. We have little breaks, more conventional arrangements but still our twists in there.”

“We’re trying to do things that are very big and bold and orchestrated,” Black Francis added. “The punky stuff, I really like playing it but you just cannot artificially create that shit. There’s another way to do this, there’s other things we can do with this extra special energy that we’re encountering.”

Pixies previewed Doggerel with the LP’s eighth track, “There’s A Moon On.” Stream the single in the lyric video below and also check out an album trailer premiered by Rolling Stone:
