Influential rockers Pixies took a day off from North American tour on Wednesday to serve as the musical guests on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Black Francis & Co. threw down an incendiary performance of “Motoroller” for the late-night talk show.

“Motoroller” is featured on the Pixies’ latest album, 2024’s The Night The Zombies Came. The 13-track LP was the band’s first to feature current bassist Emma Richardson. Guitarist/vocalist Black Francis, guitarist Joey Santiago, drummer David Lovering and Richardson recorded the album with producer Tom Dalgety.

“This is one of those kinds of songs where there’s little threads you can follow and they take you somewhere,” Black Francis revealed in a statement when “Motoroller” was released as single. “But they’re not required for the experience. You can just start fishing around in the lyrics, and maybe you won’t find exactly what the story is, but you’ll find a story related to the city of Berlin. So just have fun with the clues that are there.”

The Pixies kick off a two-night stand at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium on Friday. The band will be on the road with Kurt Vile & The Violators through August 1 before teaming with Spoon for a late-summer run.
