Pink Talking Fish Present ‘This Must Be The Cirque’ Extravaganza At The Capitol Theatre

Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Phish tribute act Pink Talking Fish presented a special “This Must Be The Cirque” concert on Saturday at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. The band was joined for the two set extravaganza by the Modern Gypsies circus dance troupe who wore colorful costumes while dancing and providing other visually stimulating entertainment onstage.

Bassist Eric Gould, guitarist Cal Kehoe, keyboardist Steve Learson and drummer Zack Burwick kicked off PTF’s sequel to their “Junta Circus” in 2019 with Phish’s “The Curtain,” Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” and Pink Floyd’s “The Thin Ice,” cycling through the three bands whose music was celebrated throughout the night.

First set highlights included Pink Floyd’s “Pigs on the Wing Part 1” and “Part 2” which were bridged by a tease of Phish’s “Roggae.” The set ended with Phish’s “Free,” Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell” and Talking Heads “Burning Down the House.”

A standout performance of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless” served as the opening song of the second set. The centerpiece of the second set was a sequence that began with Phish’s “You Enjoy Myself” that segued into a medley of The Beatles songs made up of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite,” “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Reprise” and “A Day In The Life” before returning to finish “YEM,” complete with a vocal jam.

Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” and a pairing of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)” and “Once In A Lifetime” brought an end to the second set. A fitting cover of Los Lobos’ “When The Circus Comes” (which has been part of Phish’s live repertoire) was the first song of Saturday’s encore. The celebratory night came to an end with Phish’s “First Tube” putting an energetic cap on the party at The Cap.
