Aqueous guitarist Mike Gantzer was Pigeons Playing Ping Pong‘s special guest on Wednesday night at Party In The Park in Rochester. Gantzer sat-in with the quartet on “Couldn’t We All” during last night’s second set.

Pigeons went with a “Funk E Zekiel” featuring a cover of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” within to kick off the show. “Paperboy” came next before “Melting Lights” gave way to “Twitch.” The high-energy original “Walk Outside” followed and then PPPP unleashed their rendition of the Grateful Dead’s “Help On The Way”/”Slipknot!” for the first time since December 30, 2019. Lead guitarist Jeremy Schon shredded through the disco-infused “Slipknot!” jam. The recently debuted original “Sorcerer” and beloved “Dawn A New Day” capped the frame.

The four-piece paired “Live Life” and “The Liquid” to get last night’s second set underway. Gantzer then emerged for “Couldn’t We All,” a song that dates back a decade. The guest spot was followed by a “Lost In Line” that melted into “Offshoot.” Pigeons then jammed on “The Pink Panther Theme” before wrapping up “Offshoot.” The Baltimore-based band closed out the set with live staples “Somethin’ For Ya,” “Kiwi” and “Ocean Flows.”

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong said farewell to “The Flock” in Rochester with one of their newest songs, “Feelin’ Fine,” as the encore. The band now heads to Northlands in Swanzey, New Hampshire for a Friday night show expected to feature a special appearance from Berklee School Of Music professor and guitarist Tomo Fujita.
