Pigeons Playing Ping Pong released pro-shot video of guest-filled covers of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run” and Pink Floyd‘s “Run Like Hell” featuring Andy Frasco & The U.N. and Dogs In A Pile. The concert took place at legendary Springsteen haunt The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey to kick off the bands’ joint tour.
According to Brucebase, Springsteen has performed at The Stone Pony 95 times, often unannounced, between 1974 and 2019, excluding rehearsals. Some of those “dress rehearsals” saw The Boss assembling the E Street Band there in the early days for intimate invite-only shows including for the band’s Born To Run Tour. Bruce also put Asbury Park on the map as his debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J., references the Jersey Shore town.
The massive Stone Pony collaboration on “Born To Run” kicked off the encore during Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s set on May 24. With Dogs In A Pile, who are from Asbury Park, and Andy Frasco and the UN loading the stage, the collab achieved the “Wall of Sound” aesthetic Springsteen cultivated on “Born to Run” and his 1975 album of the same name.
From “Born To Run,” the bands moved into Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell.” Watch the performance below:
Next stop on the bands’ joint tour is on Friday in Fairport, New York. Check out the itinerary below.
