Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Welcome Aqueous Members In Buffalo
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong brought their fall tour to Buffalo on Friday and Saturday for shows at The Town Ballroom. The quartet was joined by Aqueous‘ Dave Loss for a guest appearance on Friday and Mike Gantzer for a cameo on Saturday.
On Friday, Pigeons got their first set of the weekend underway with a run of “Too Long,” “Walk Outside,” “Snake Eyes” and “Posedion.” Aqueous multi-instrumentalist Dave Loss then emerged on guitar to add to a version of “Lightning” featuring “Moonwalk” within before PPPP closed the frame with “Doc.” The band returned to the stage to start set two by jamming “Penguins” into “Funkijam,” which gave way to “Upfunk.” Next up was the pairing of “Fox & Toad” and “Live It Up.” Then, “Low Down” was followed by rarity “X-Files” and classics “The Hop” and “F.U.” The four-piece ended the night with a “The Liquid” encore.
Saturday’s show opened with “Whoopie” and “Bad For You.” PPPP then jammed “Somethin For Ya” into “Skipjack” before closing the set with a run of “Julia,” “Porcupine,” “Sail On” and “King Kong.” For the second set, Pigeons started the frame with “Fade Fast” and then presented a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” that bled into “Horizon.” Next, Aqueous’ Mike Gantzer added to “Sunny Day.” PPPP concluded the set with “Lost In Line” and “Dawn A New Day” ahead of a “J-Town” > “Zydeko” encore.
