Pigeons Playing Ping Pong released a new studio single entitled “Alright Tonight.” The Baltimore-based quartet debuted the original song live last October during a hometown show at Soundstage with 10 additional versions following over the past year.

The song starts with a more laidback and introspective feel than the high-octane material for which PPPP is known. “Alright Tonight” eventually builds to a guitar-driven climax.

“We had just finished playing a different song at band practice when I started singing the initial guitar line, which I then played. [drummer Alex] Gator [Petropulos] joined with a slick drum groove, then [lead guitarist] Jeremy [Schon] and [bassist] Ben [Carrey] developed a unique chord progression that wrapped perfectly around the melody, and my vocals started flowing. From there, we put our minds on it and fleshed it out pretty quickly,” noted rhythm guitarist/lead vocalist Greg Ormont. “We always listen back later to fine tune and add more parts where appropriate, but the initial genesis of this song was really organic, which is always a great sign.”

Greg Ormont also explained “Alright Tonight” includes something new for him. “This song also features my first guitar solo in the studio, which was a fun challenge to embrace,” Ormont revealed.
