Photos, Setlist & Video: Widespread Panic Kicks Off Second Duane Era

A wild day in Widespread Panic history concluded with the band’s first of two performances at The Classic Center in Athens, Georgia yesterday. On Tuesday we learned the group’s founding drummer Todd Nance had stepped down to be replaced by Duane Trucks moving forward and indeed Duane was on stage last night. Trucks last performed with the band on New Year’s Eve and didn’t seem to miss a step. Widespread Panic’s shows in Athens celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first Widespread Panic show which took place on February 6, 1986 in Athens. Panic presented a pair of career-spanning sets that included the first “Driving Song” > “Space Wrangler” > “Driving Song” sequence since April 1, 1992 and a handful of songs from the group’s most recent album, Street Dogs, which features contributions from Duane.
