New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Day 4 :: 4.28.16 :: New Orleans, LA

The second weekend of the 2016 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival kicked off on Thursday with another full slate of performances across the fairgrounds’ several stages. One of the many highlights of the day was the special Tedeschi Trucks Band set that featured special guest guitarist Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and guitarist Jimmie Vaughan. While the collaborative TTB performance was going on at the Acura Stage, Elvis Costello & The Imposters were delivering a career-spanning set at the same time at the Gentilly Stage. Costello’s set (a setlist can be found underneath the gallery) saw his band joined by The Crescent City Horns for a bulk of the performance.

Houston’s The Suffers preceded Costello’s set with a lively performance despite the muggy NOLA heat. A day before releasing their new studio album Culcha Vulcha, the funky ensemble Snarky Puppy performed at Jazz Fest before making a surprise appearance at Republic later in the evening. Acclaimed guitarist Gary Clark Jr. brought a bit of blues rock to the Acura Stage at the same time Brandi Carlile was dropping some country twang on the Gentilly Stage. Thursday also saw sets by such NOLA locals as New Birth Brass Band, Mia Borders, Meschiya Lake and many more. View photographer Adam McCullough’s photos in the gallery below:
