Phoenix Debuts New Songs At First Show In 3 Years
By Jeffrey Greenblatt Apr 24, 2017 • 11:43 am PDT
On Saturday night Phoenix returned to the stage for the first of two warm-up shows in Antwerp, Belgium. For their first gigs in nearly three years the Parisian pop-rock act, who have been teasing the release of a new album, wasted no time in treating fans to new material. The four-piece band debuted a pair of new songs early in the show, opening the night with the slinky, disco-tinged tune “Ti Amo.” Phoenix next played a pair of tracks from their two most recent studio albums, including fan-favorite “Lasso,” before the live debut of “J-Boy.”
Thomas Mars & Co. continued through their 14-song set by focusing on some of their most well-known tracks including “Trying to Be Cool / Drakkar Noir,” “Sunskrupt!” and “Lisztomania” before their final debut of the night, “Role Model.” The band closed the night with a three-song encore that featured “1901” and a reprise of the night’s opener “Ti Amo” to give the show a circuital feel.
Phoenix returns to the stage on May 12, to kick off the North American leg of their world tour with a sold-out show at The Fillmore in Miami.
