Phish’s ‘You Enjoy Myself’ Through The Years

Yesterday marked the 32nd anniversary of the first Phish show which actually featured the band performing under the moniker “Blackwood Convention.” The quartet debuted the original “You Enjoy Myself” in 1986 and have since performed the tune more than any other. For today’s Throwback Thursday, let’s check out a fan- made mix which contains bits of live versions of the landmark song recorded between 1986 and 2012.
The 52-minute compilation starts with portions of the composed sections of “You Enjoy Myself” recorded in the group’s early years and then presents one “YEM” jam after another. Included within are bits of such memorable versions as the “ARU YEM” in 1993, DMB violinist Boyd Tinsley contributing to the tune in 1995, the Island Tour version from 1998 and a take recorded at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in 2012. Thanks to YouTube’s TreysTrippin for sharing the mix. The compilation shows off the many different styles of jamming the foursome has explored over the years. Listen:
Phish returns to the stage on December 30 to begin a four-show New Year’s Run at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
