Watch Phish Play 15-Minute ‘Wave Of Hope’ In Atlantic City: Pro-Shot Video

Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio put out “A Wave Of Hope” during a particularly prolific period for the musician as the COVID-19 pandemic raged in June of 2020. A little over a year later Phish first played the song live in Noblesville, Indiana on August 7, 2021. While that version and three that followed were compact and similar to the initial rendition put out by Trey, “A Wave Of Hope” has since turned into a full-fledged jam vehicle. The latest extended take came in Atlantic City, New Jersey last Sunday and the band posted pro-shot video of the 15-minute “Wave Of Hope” from their third and final night on the Jersey Shore.

Trey Anastasio fit “Wave Of Hope” on his Lonely Trip album that was released on July 31, 2021. Phish took the song deep for the first time on June 4, 2022 at the same Noblesville venue where they had debuted the tune the prior summer. The quartet delivered the longest “Wave Of Hope” yet, spanning nearly 24 minutes, the following month in Hartford on July 24. Another lengthy version came two Sundays later in Columbia, Maryland on July 31 setting the stage for the Atlantic City rendition.

“‘A Wave of Hope’ has had a phenomenal summer, hitting home runs its last three times at the plate. Sunday made it four,” wrote JamBase contributor Ben Greenfield in his recap of the Atlantic City finale. “The jam was a collage of sound, as Trey seemed to enter a trancelike state as he layered one loop on top of another, as his bandmates braided the threads of a winding groove beneath him.”
