Phish Summer 2015 Setbreak Spotify Playlist

Phish is a band known for mixing and exploring many genres of music within the confines of a given show or even a single song. The influence of these varying styles is heard at their shows in the originals the band performs as well as the eclectic canon of covers the play. Phish the band isn’t the only source of a cross-section of music at their shows as even the selections played over the PA before the show starts, at setbreak and during walk-out come from diverse sources both old and new. This week’s Saturday Stream Spotify Playlist – Phish.Setbreak.Summer.2015 – was compiled by the band’s creative director and designer Julia Mordaunt and features the LPs played over the PA at Phish’s shows this summer.

The massive collection boasts a whopping 934 songs, launching with The Village Green Preservation Society by The Kinks and continuing for more than 60 hours in running time. There are classic LPs by Big Star, The Band, Bill Withers, Faces and Miles Davis – to name just a few – as well as releases by old timers such as Howlin’ Wolf, Ray Charles, Benny Goodman and Django Reinhardt. Making multiple appearances were favorites Calexico, The Meters, David Bowie, Talking Heads and The Kinks.

LPs released in 2015 that were spun at shows this summer include Tame Impala’s Currents, Mac Demarco’s Another One, La Luz’s Weirdo Shrine, Father John Misty’s I Love You, Honeybear and Leon Bridge’s Coming Home which were played alongside other contemporary releases by the likes of Kurt Vile, Real Estate, Sturgill Simpson, Shakey Graves, Aphex Twin, Sylvan Esso, TV On The Radio and more.
