Phish Performs ‘Split Open & Melt’ In Charleston: Pro-Shot Video

Phish added pro-shot video featuring “Split Open & Melt” from Saturday night in Charleston to their YouTube channel. The expansive take on the song from 1990’s Lawn Boy was played during the second set of the band’s second of three shows at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Saturday’s “Split Open & Melt” came a few songs after a cover of Talking Heads’ “Crosseyed & Painless” that included a jam on the holiday classic “The Little Drummer Boy.” Phish not only fit more teases of the song into “Split,” they also worked in a “Crosseyed” reprise. Here’s what I wrote about the sequence in my recap of the show:

The evil ‘Split’ featured [drummer Jon] Fish[man] on Marimba Lumina. Phish dove into deep space with no one member taking the lead, as all four contributed to a dark and eerie jam that included more ‘The Little Drummer Boy’ teases from [guitarist] Trey [Anastasio]. Just when Fish picked up the beat and it seemed Phish was headed for the ‘Split’ peak, they turned back to ‘Crosseyed & Painless’ for a reprise of the Talking Heads cover. It was only then that the quartet wrapped up ‘Split Open & Melt.’
