Today, Phish shared pro-shot video featuring the outstanding “Simple” into “Catapult” into “Meatstick” segment from their summer tour closer at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. The wild 24-minute sequence came within the second set on Sunday, September 5.

“Catapult” made its first appearance that night since the band’s instant classic show at Alpine Valley on July 14, 2019. Guitarist Trey Anastasio shared vocals on the song with bassist Mike Gordon. Anastasio fit sounds that sounded more like they came from a computer than a guitar into the ensuing “Meatstick” which featured elements of “Catapult” and “Lonely Trip.” The guitarist also referenced the venue during “Catapult.”

Read a recap of the segment from JamBase's coverage of the evening:

Phish went in an evil direction to begin the “Simple” jam rather than the typical pretty progression they use as a springboard to Type-II terrain. Anastasio, McConnell and Gordon connected on an ascending riff they worked over while Fish played a funky beat. The filthy groove was the soundtrack for “Catapult,” as Mike and Trey sang Gordon’s lyrics to the A Picture Of Nectar obscurity over the nasty progression. Anastasio changed the words to, “I went to Dick’s and I hooked up to a machine,” while the bassist quoted “Cool Amber & Mercury.” Both Mike and Trey focused on the word “machine” and sang it repeatedly. Phish was right back to that next level mentioned earlier with all four members impressively contributing to the deliciously weird “Catapult.”

“Catapult” bled into the tour’s first “Meatstick” and the Japanese lyrics were followed by a return to “Catapult.” Anastasio eeked out computer and analog phone sounds from his guitar. Trey sang a bit of both “Catapult” and “Lonely Trip” while Fish continued playing the “Meatstick” groove. Wild mashups have been another tour trend and the “Catapult”/”Lonely Trip”/”Meatstick” mix came two nights after a show-recapping mashup medley in “Plasma” on Friday (September 3).
