Phish Shares ‘Down With Disease’ & ‘Cities’ From North Charleston Tour Opener

This past Friday night Phish kicked off Fall Tour 2016 with the first of two shows at North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, South Carolina. Today the quartet has shared pro-shot video of the improvisational highlight of the evening.

Phish began the second set on Friday with “No Men In No Man’s Land” and then launched into “Down With Disease.” Trey had some struggles with the lyrics, but quickly laughed them off. “Disease” took a particularly dark turn as the foursome broke through the song’s normal boundaries. Drummer Jon Fishman pounded out a strong groove as Anastasio dropped thick, angular leads and McConnell switched between clavinet and piano ahead of a spot-on transition into “Cities.” The Talking Heads cover hadn’t made an appearance in the second set since December 31, 2014. One of the hallmarks of Summer Tour was Trey putting down his guitar during jams to bang out beats on the Marimba Lumina. It appears the trend will continue as Anastasio played Marimba Lumina during the “Cities” jam.
