Watch Phish’s Energetic Debut Of New Original Song ‘Pillow Jets’

Phish released pro-shot video of new original “Pillow Jets.” The premiere Phish performance came during the quartet’s first of two concerts at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh on Friday.

Trey Anastasio Trio — Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio and drummer Jon Fishman along with Trey Anastasio Band bassist Dezron Douglas — first played “On Pillow Jets” (the “On” has seemingly been dropped from the title) on June 10, 2023 during their recent run at Denver’s Mission Ballroom.

Trey Trio unveiled several new songs during the Mission stand and Phish has been steadily premiering many of them on the 2023 Summer Tour. So far, the band has debuted “Oblivion,” “Ether Edge,” “…And Flew Away” (this song has been in the TAB catalog for a couple years), “The Well,” “mercy” (title track to Trey’s 2022 solo acoustic album), “Pillow Jets” and “Monsters.”

The “Pillow Jets” debut at Star Lake on Friday came during the second set and emerged from the Kasvot Växt number “The Final Hurrah.” Check out JamBase’s coverage of the song premiere:

Another blink-and-it’s-done segue brought out the Phish debut of “Pillow Jets,” a song that felt made for Fishman with its references to thunder and plenty of room to accommodate his ever-impressive drumming. The ensuing jam found all four guys just shredding like teenagers rather than middle-aged rockers, with an open-ended energy that you don’t often find in a song’s live debut. “Pillow Jets” is one to watch.
