Phish dropped pro-shot video of their performance of “I Always Wanted It This Way” from a recent show in Nashville. The footage was filmed this past Saturday, October 7 during the second set of the second show of the band’s three-night stand at Bridgestone Arena.
“I Always Wanted It This Way” was the penultimate song of Phish’s second set in Nashville on Saturday. The middle night of the group’s first visit to Bridgestone Arena was believed to be concert #2001 for Phish, who opened with the fitting “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” a.k.a “2001.” The band came out of the gates for the closing stanza with the recently debuted “Life Saving Gun” and then worked through “Sand” and “Everything’s Right” ahead of a lengthy cover of Talking Heads’ “Cities.” A slow “Llama” followed before “I Always Wanted It This Way.”

Written and sung by keyboardist Page McConnell, the 13-minute version of “I Always Wanted It This Way” in Nashville featured a huge guitar-driven peak courtesy of Trey Anastasio. The quartet then explored an interstellar progression before the song concluded in silence. Phish went on to wrap the second set with “Bug” and delivered an encore of “Lonely Trip” and “Harry Hood.”
