On Saturday, Phish drummer Jon Fishman will speak on behalf of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at the Maine Democratic Party’s convention according to the Associated Press. Fishman will represent Sanders while Barney Frank will speak on behalf of Hillary Clinaton at Portland, Maine’s Cross Insurance Arena.
Jon Fishman started extolling the virtues of Sanders’ candidacy on Facebook and Twitter last summer and has continued tweeting and sharing Facebook posts about the campaign since. Fishman has a long history of supporting Bernie’s political endeavors including performing at a 2006 Honky Tonk The Vote concert for Sanders’ Senatorial campaign. Bernie Sanders was the Mayor of Burlington – the Vermont city where Phish was formed in 1983 – between 1981 and 1989.
Fish has taken part in a number of Sanders campaign events over the past few months including performances of live music in Maine, Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Phish returns to the road on June 22 in St. Paul, Minnesota and will perform at the Portland venue as part of their Summer Tour.
