Phish Dick’s First Night Setlist Antics

Tonight, Phish will play the first of three concerts at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado just outside Denver. In what’s become an annual Labor Day weekend tradition, the band will close out their summer tour at Dick’s and if what’s gone down the last four years is any indication of what might be in store for this evening’s performance – opening night should be fun.

For the past four years Phish has used night one at Dick’s to get playful with setlist construction and performance. In 2011 they opened with a show composed entirely of songs that began with the letter “S.” The following year’s first night featured a setlist that if you took the first letter of each song, the result spelled “Fuck Your Face,” with the band then playing the rarity to close the second set. Opening night at Dick’s in 2013 was a bit more complicated as the first letter of each song played in reverse order spelled “Most Shows Spell Something.” Last year the band continued the first-letter-word-building approach, opening the show with songs that spelled out “Lushington” in response to ballot-stuffing Phish fans pulled off in a Rolling Stone online poll to select the band’s best song.

For Full Show Friday below are complete sets from each of the past four opening nights at Dick’s. Who knows what’s in store for tonight …
