On Saturday, Phish played the third of three shows to end this year’s Phish Riviera Maya destination event at Barcelo Maya Beach Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico. An improvisational highlight came out of “Tweezer” when they performed a blissful version of “Carini.” Pro-shot video of the “Carini” from Saturday night’s concert has been shared by the band on YouTube.

The second set on Saturday started with “First Tube” and the return of “Mike’s Song” into “Weekapaug Groove” without anything in the middle for the first time since July 17, 1998. Phish took a short break after “Weekapaug” and then went with a seamless finish to the frame. “Carini” emerged from “Tweezer” and guitarist Trey Anastasio focused on staccato rhythmic work once the composed part of the song concluded. The quartet then modulated into a major key as drummer Jon Fishman provided a mellow base, keyboardist Page McConnell utlized a synth tone straight out of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” and bassist Mike Gordon drove the improv for a bit.

Saturday’s “Carini” continued on with Anastasio settling in on an anthemic riff. The band quickly caught on and Trey led a build to a blissful peak. After nearly three minutes of a powerful climax, the guitarist threw in the main theme of “Tweezer” before a segue into “Ghost.” Watch pro-shot video of the “Carini” from Phish’s final set of 2019 in Mexico:
