Phil Lesh made a guest appearance with The Terrapin All Stars on Sunday with his son Grahame Lesh and more. The guest spot from the Grateful Dead bassist came during Terrapin Crossroads’ inaugural Sunday Daydream event at McNears Beach Park in San Rafael, California.
While Terrapin Crossroads — the restaurant and venue owned by Phil Lesh and his wife Jill — closed in 2021, the Lesh Family plan to host events like Sunday Daydream to keep the spirit of the beloved venue alive. Sunday Daydream Vol. 2 was announced on Monday and is set for August 27.

Although he regularly performed at Terrapin Crossroads’ music events, Phil Lesh’s appearance at Sunday Daydream on July 9 marked his first local show back in San Rafael — where TXR was located — since Summer 2021. Following sets from Scott Law & Friends and Eric Krasno & Friends, The Terrapin All Stars took the stage at McNears Beach Park to close out the event.
The Terrapin All Stars lineup consisted of guitarists Grahame Lesh, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz and Stu Allen, keyboardist Jason Crosby, vocalists Amy Helm and Elliott Peck along with longtime Lesh drummer John Molo. Grahame, Reed Mathis and Brian Rashap rotated on bass before Phil took the stage halfway through the set.
The Terrapin All Stars began with “St. Stephen” which led into “China Cat Sunflower” with Lebo on lead vocals. TAS then headed into “Chinacat’s” live Dead companion “I Know You Rider,” which saw Stu Allen singing lead, joined in harmony by the rest of the singers on the choruses. Amy Helm then led the group through “Friend Of The Devil” before Stu returned to the mic for “Standing On The Moon.” Amy then helmed “They Love Each Other” before Phil joined the fun, telling the audience at one point “Welcome Home Terrapin Nation!”
The Phil segment kicked off with “Jack Straw.” The bassist then captained TAS on “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo,” which boasted a tasty piano run from Crosby as well as Lebo shredding his acoustic guitar during the “Rio Grandio” coda.
Amy then handled lead vocals on “Eyes Of The World.” Allen reeled off a smoking solo for the first instrumental segment while Crosby began the second on electric piano before kicking things over to Lebo for more acoustic guitar magic. Phil and The Terrapin All-Stars then delivered the Grateful Dead epic “Terrapin Station” before wrapping the inaugural Sunday Daydream with “Uncle John’s Band.”
