Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family Band performed on Friday at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island. The Grateful Dead bassist welcomed several guest musicians during the set at Fort Adams State Park that included sit-ins by Warren Haynes, Benmont Tench and Sheryl Crow.
“Jack Straw” opened the late-afternoon performance. Midway into the set, Haynes and Tench joined the ensemble on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young classic “Almost Cut My Hair.” Tench, who recently made his Phil & Friends debut, played organ alongside fellow keyboardist Jason Crosby for the remainder of the set. Crow added harmonica and her backing band guitarist Audley Freed also joined Lesh & Co. on the set-closing “Not Fade Away.”
