Phil Lesh resumed his guest role spot with Midnight North on Thursday at The Grey Eagle in Asheville, North Carolina. As the legendary Grateful Dead bassist did the night previous in Nashville, Phil joined his son Grahame Lesh and Midnight North toward the end of the set for a Workingman’s Dead classic and more.

Midnight North kicked off the concert with “Highway Song” from their 2017 album Under The Lights followed by a newer original, “The Sailor & The Sea,” from the group’s upcoming album, There’s Always A Story. Midnight North also delivered some choice covers including Jason Isbell’s stellar song “Only Children,” the Tedeschi Trucks Band classic “Midnight In Harlem” and more.

In a similar fashion to Nashville the night before, Phil joined in for There’s Always A Story single “Coyote” followed by “San Francisco Rain.” Midnight North vocalist Elliott Peck then led the band through “New Speedway Boogie” to close out the set. Phil would stick around for the encore, the title track to Under The Lights, which he did not perform with the band on Wednesday.
