Phil Lesh, Jason Crosby, Craig MacArthur & Alex Koford Play Upbeat ‘Candyman’ At Terrapin Crossroads
By Andy Kahn Sep 28, 2016 • 1:18 pm PDT

Yesterday Phil Lesh performed at the Terrapin Crossroads outpost in San Rafael, California as part of free performance on the venue’s backyard stage. The Grateful Dead bassist was joined by keyboardist Jason Crosby and guitarists Craig MacArthur and Alex Koford on a nifty arrangement of a Dead classic.
Lesh and the ensemble offered a lively take on “Candyman” that was presented in more upbeat fashion than is typical for the song that appeared on the Dead’s 1970 album American Beauty. Written by Robert Hunter, Jerry Garcia and Lesh, Tuesday afternoon’s rendition of “Candyman” featured Crosby on lead vocals on the drums-less interpretation of the tune.
YouTuber nowiknowuryder was out back yesterday at Terrapin and captured the atypical “Candyman” in the video below:
