Phil Lesh hosted a candlelight vigil at his Terrapin Crossroads venue in San Rafael, California on Tuesday night. Billed as “All Children Are Our Children,” the event was held in remembrance of the victims of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
The free memorial began with an emotional Lesh addressing those gathered at Beach Park about taking action to prevent gun violence.
“I’m feeling such rage right now, such anguish and grief thinking about these brave spirits cut off before their time,” said Phil. He added “This cannot stand, this cannot stand. We cannot allow this. Who are we if we cannot protect our children? Who are we if we don’t stand up, raise our voices, demand to be heard?”
Lesh then welcomed Helen Rosen and another representative from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America to speak about gun control activism. Lesh then passed around photos and spoke about the 17 victims of the Parkland, Florida shooting.
The event ended with Lesh, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, Scott Law and Ross James performing an acoustic set around the park’s fire pit.
