Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and his son, Midnight North guitarist Grahame Lesh were performers at last month’s Lockn’ Festival in Arlington, Virginia. While on site, both Phil and Grahame sat for an interview with Gary Lambert of SiriusXM’s Jam On.
The elder Lesh begins the chat by discussing his San Rafael, California restaurant and music venue Terrapin Crossroads. He and Grahame talk about recruiting musicians to play at Terrapin Crossroads such as members of The Mother Hips, ALO and Jackie Greene.
“I think of it as a sanctuary for everyone, not just our people,” Phil says about Terrapin Crossroads. “Because we get everyone from the surrounding area, not just Deadheads. So that’s very gratifying.”
Lambert also asks Phil and Grahame about the Terrapin Family Band performance at Lockn’ with Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead album Terrapin Station. The talk touches on their rendition of the “Terrapin Suite” that included a “Jack O’Roses” section with lyrics written by Robert Hunter but never set to music by the Dead.
