Sting and Peter Gabriel recently wrapped their joint Rock Paper Scissors Tour with a performance at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Canada on Sunday night. The collaborative concert saw Gabriel – the former Genesis frontman – sing one of the band’s songs live for the first time since 1982.
Throughout the tour Sting would introduce his hit “Message In A Bottle” with an arrangement of the intro to the Genesis song “Dancing With the Moonlit Knight,” whose lyrics provided the title to their acclaimed 1973 Selling England By The Pound LP. Sunday’s tour finale featured Gabriel singing the first two stanzas of lyrics to the Genesis song for the first time live in 34 years.
The decades-in-the-making moment occurred mid-show and was captured by OVI-Wan Kenobi, watch:
Genesis played their first and to date only show with Peter Gabriel since 1975 on October 2, 1982 in Milton Keynes, England. An excerpt of “Dancing With The Moonlit Knight” was played as part of that show. Peter Gabriel has stuck to solo material at his own concerts since performing “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” with Phil Collins at the 1979 Reading Festival.
