Peter Gabriel released the massively successful album So 35 years ago today. Gabriel celebrated the occasion by sharing official video featuring a “Big Time” performance filmed at the Estadio Vélez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 22, 2009.
“Big Time” is one of five So singles along with “Sledgehammer,” “In Your Eyes,” “Don’t Give Up” and “Red Rain” that each stand among the best songs in the former Genesis frontman’s solo catalog. So saw Peter Gabriel embrace the music video revolution by creating iconic videos which were in heavy rotation on MTV. Gabriel wrote all 12 songs on the LP, one of the most accessible albums from his storied career.

Peter Gabriel put out “Big Time” as a single in February 1987, nearly a year after So was issued. The video for the track employed stop motion claymation by David Daniels and strata-cut animation not too far a field from techniques used in the “Sledgehammer” visual.
The live “Big Time” featured in the video below was played during the third show of a short tour through Latin America that spanned March 18 – 31, 2009 and also included stops in Venezuela, Peru, Chile and Mexico. Gabriel’s jaunt was his first in two years and marked his only shows of 2009 outside of an appearance at his WOMAD Festival on July 25.
