Pearl Jam Performs ‘Vs.’ In Its Entirety In South Carolina

Seattle rockers Pearl Jam had a special treat in store for attendees of the band’s show at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday night. Pearl Jam started the night innocently enough with “Corduroy” before performing all 12 songs from their 1993 sophomore studio album Vs.

Last night’s full performance of Vs. comes after the group played all of No Code and Yield at shows held during their last U.S. tour in the fall of 2014. When bassist Jeff Ament was asked by Rolling Stone about the chance of Pearl Jam performing a full album on this tour, Ament replied “I’ve never been a fan of that to be honest. Well, that’s not true. I saw Cheap Trick do three albums and that was amazing. But for the most part I haven’t been a fan of that. When we did those albums, we were on the plane going to the show and Ed said, ‘Hey, what do you feel about doing No Code tonight?’ And then we basically scrambled and learned the five songs we hadn’t played in 10 years right before the show. And it created, like, a good tension. By the second or third song, the fans started realizing what we were doing. We could sense that. I think the fact that we did it in Milwaukee and Moline, [Illinois,] was awesome. That was the greatest thing ever.”

Pearl Jam’s complete performance of Vs. included two tour debuts as they played “Rats” for the first time since October 20, 2014 and “Leash” for the first time since November 17, 2015. All told, the group was onstage for nearly three hours and ran through 33 songs. Eddie Vedder & Co.’s encore featured the evening’s other three tour debuts – “Future Days,” “Present Tense” and “Breath.” We’ll soon find out if PJ has any tricks up their sleeves for a visit to Hampton Coliseum tomorrow night.
