Pearl Jam Gives An ‘Education’ In Kentucky

Last night Pearl Jam brought their tour to the home of University Of Kentucky basketball for a performance at the Rupp Arena in Lexington. Keeping with a trend established early on this tour, Pearl Jam continued to dig deep into their catalog, busting out a song for the first time in almost five years.

The band opened the show with the title track from their 2013 album Lightning Bolt, followed by “Mind Your Manners” from the same LP. A few songs later came the tour debut of the Vitalogy rarity “Satan’s Bed.” A run through favorites “Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town,” “Corduroy” and “Sirens” preceded the bust out of “Education.” Just the eighth live performance and first since September 3, 2011, Eddie Vedder dedicated the rendition to the teachers and students in the audience.

The rest of the set mixed staples such as “Even Flow,” “Daughter,” “Given To Fly” and “Rearviewmirror” with more less commonly played selections like just the second performance of “Army Reserve” of the tour which was dedicated the military members and veterans in the crowd. The first encore saw Vedder play The Beatles’ “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away” and his “Just Breathe” ahead of the tour debut of “Thumbing My Way” which was last played on December 4, 2013. The first encore also featured a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” and ended with “Porch.” The second 2016 rendition of “Smile” kicked of the second encore, which concluded with a cover of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” and the sing-along “Yellow Ledbetter.”

Pearl Jam heads to Philadelphia for their next two shows which take place at Wells Fargo Center tomorrow and Friday. Below, watch audience-shot videos of last night’s show in Kentucky:
